Robinho Signs for Manchester City

New Manchester City signing Robinho has set his sights on bringing a first Premier League title to Eastlands. Umm !

The 24-year-old signed from Real Madrid for a British record £32.4m as City pulled off a major coup just before Monday's transfer deadline.

"I want to help the manager and the team to win the Premier League, that's my ambition," he told the club website.(Then he woke up!)

"I knew that City are a very big club, there's a great team there and this is an exciting project." (And money earner !)

After an injection of funds from new investors Abu Dhabi United Group, City managed to out manoeuvre Chelsea to bring the Brazilian to Eastlands.

Robinho had seemed certain to move to Stamford Bridge, telling a press conference on Sunday that "I am only thinking of Chelsea" as he attempted to engineer a move away from Madrid.

But he said the chance to team up with his international team-mates Jo and Elano at City was a key factor in his decision to join Mark Hughes' side.

"They are my friends," Robinho explained.

"Having such great players at City was one of the reasons why I decided to come here."

Robinho met Hughes in London on Tuesday before flying on to South America for Brazil's 2010 World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Bolivia.

"I met with the manager and it went very well," he added.

"I know that he was a great player and I think that will be a big help to me."

Robinho was also delighted to hear that City fans have already got behind their new high-profile signing by buying replica shirts emblazoned with his name.

"That makes me very, very happy, and I want to repay this excitement by performing on the pitch, and scoring a lot of goals for the fans," he added.

Robinho's first taste of Premier League football is likely to come in City's home match against Chelsea on 13 September. (Good luck City. It will take more than one player and a carrupt owner who is responsible for many deaths in thailand)
